As one of the UK’s leading providers of high-quality assessments, Antser has a proud history of bringing innovation, expertise, and a client-focused approach to the sectors we serve. From our decades of experience in family law assessments with Carter Brown, we have consistently set the benchmark for excellence, always with one goal in mind: to improve outcomes for individuals, families, and communities.

Earlier this year, Antser identified a growing need for quality consumer autism and ADHD assessment services, leading to the launch of the Autism Assessment Hub. Initially starting in Birmingham, we have since expanded to other locations such as London, Newcastle, and Cheshire, with an ambitious plan to establish a clinic in every major UK city within the next 12 months. This new initiative reflects our unwavering commitment to tackling the national shortage of autism assessments, providing much-needed support for individuals and families who face long delays in accessing essential diagnostic services.

To further solidify our position as a leader in this field, we are delighted to announce the acquisition of Solihull Autism Assessment Service. Widely recognised as one of the leading clinics in the West Midlands, Solihull has long been at the forefront of clinically led, high-quality autism assessments. From the outset, it became clear that both organisations shared a natural synergy, with aligned values and a shared commitment to excellence. Bringing these two teams together made perfect sense as we continue our mission to provide accessible, compassionate, and accurate assessments for all.

Why This Matters:

Autism Assessment Hub is rapidly growing, with live hubs already in Birmingham, London, and Alderley Edge. The acquisition of Solihull Autism Assessment Service—located just a short distance from Birmingham—marks a strategic move to enhance our service offering in the West Midlands, ensuring that more individuals across the region have access to timely, accurate, and high-quality autism assessments.

The proximity of the two hubs allows us to optimise resources, share knowledge, and expand the breadth of services available to our clients. By bringing Solihull Autism Assessment Service into the fold, we are not just expanding geographically—we are expanding our commitment to quality and the speed with which we deliver results, with the average diagnosis time at the Autism Assessment Hub already being just 6-8 weeks, a significant improvement over national waiting times.

Both Autism Assessment Hub and Solihull Autism Assessment Service are driven by a shared belief that every individual deserves the best possible care and support. With Solihull’s established team, including Dr Jessica and Dr Zoe—who have been instrumental in delivering high-quality assessments and compassionate care—the partnership is set to create even greater opportunities for neurodivergent individuals to receive the diagnoses and support they need.

Richard Dooner, CEO of The Antser Group, commented: “I am absolutely delighted that we have acquired Solihull Autism Assessment Service. Both Dr Zoe and Dr Jessica are true ambassadors for the sector, making sure quality is at the heart of what they do. With their ethos and dedication, they were a natural fit for Antser as we continue to grow in the neurodivergent space.”

Dr Jessica, Co-Director and Clinical Lead (Chartered Clinical Psychologist), commented: “Zoe and I have worked hard for a number of years to create a reputation and service with high quality and best practice at its heart and we were privileged to be approached by the Antser Group to share our model, working together to deliver reliable, gold standard Autism and ADHD assessments nationally as part of the Autism Assessment Hub. Together, we share the same vision and priorities and we are excited to see how things progress as a team.”

Dr Zoe, Co-Director and Clinical Lead (Clinical Psychologist), added: “At Solihull Autism Assessment Service our priority has always been to work in a collaborative way with families and individuals drawing on our expertise, experience and team work to offer a neuro-affirming, high quality Autism and ADHD assessment pathway. It is really exciting to now join with Antser who have proven they are completely aligned with our service values. Together I hope we can help more families and individuals to find understanding and a positive way forward.”

This acquisition is just the beginning of our continued growth in the neurodivergent assessment space. With plans to launch additional hubs across the UK, our goal is to make autism and ADHD assessments as easy and stress-free as possible. By cutting waiting times and expanding access to high-quality services, we are committed to providing individuals and families with the answers and support they need—faster.

As Antser continues to grow and evolve, we remain committed to delivering the gold standard of service across all our sectors, ensuring positive outcomes for all.

With an estimated 750,000 people living with undiagnosed autism in the UK, a leading provider of transformational solutions to the health and social care sector has launched its own first dedicated autism assessment service to help stem the current delays in referrals and provide the best possible outcomes for those seeking a diagnosis.

With over 23 years’ experience of completing assessments of children, families and individuals and led by HCPC registered sector experts, Antser’s new Autism Assessment Hub provides high-quality autism assessments and tailored recommendations for both children and adults, within six to eight weeks.

More than 1 in 100 people in the UK are autistic. As of December 2023, the average NHS waiting time for an autism assessment in England was nine months for children and young people and over 10 months for adults from the time of referral – a 47 per cent increase from the previous year. A total of 86% of people awaiting assessment are waiting longer than NICE’s recommended 13 weeks, with some reporting delays of five or six years.

The launch of the hub reflects Antser’s dedication to supporting neurodivergent individuals and their families across the UK especially young people and females – who often mask or downplay behaviours during initial screenings – to ensure accurate and timely diagnoses.

It also reinforces Antser’s commitment to supporting the wider health sector to cope with demand. In the same way it has continuously driven quality and professionalism into family law assessments, it now plans to do the same in the neurodivergent space to ensure positive outcomes for all.

Debbie Roberts, Autism Assessment Hub’s Head of Neurodivergent Service, said: “The current delays on autism diagnoses can have profound impacts on individuals and their families, affecting access to necessary support and interventions. Our new Autism Assessment Hub will help make autism diagnosis easy, accessible and stress-free for people in and around Birmingham.

“We understand the importance of a supportive and thorough autism assessment journey and the critical importance of early diagnosis for neurodivergent conditions. Working with individuals and families, our expert approach will ensure they can start to take advantage of the multiple benefits of getting a diagnosis, from the personal to the professional.”

In its manifesto, Labour promised to make neurodivergent assessments available to all and without delay, which also recognises neurodivergent conditions in girls and women as well as in boys and men. Full assessments would also identify whether an individual has other, related conditions and to supply adequate support following a diagnosis.

Earlier this year, the former Secretary of State for Health and Social Care also announced the ‘Neurodivergent Conditions Screening, Teaching and Training Bill’, which gives primary school children the opportunity to be screened for neurodivergent conditions, highlighting the significance of early screening and support in a young person’s life.

Debbie added: “Early screening and support can significantly enhance the life chances of neurodivergent children. Identifying these conditions at an early stage ensures that appropriate support systems are put in place, helping children to thrive as they grow.”

The Autism Assessment Hub has a dedicated team of HCPC-certified clinicians who are committed to providing comprehensive and compassionate autism assessments to children and adults.

With a multidisciplinary team, it ensures the gold standard NICE guidelines are adhered to at every stage of the process. Offering a comprehensive approach to assessments, examining both present and historical symptoms and behaviours to gain a complete picture before concluding a final diagnosis.

With almost 90 per cent of young people believing that social media is driving harmful behaviour, a new series of virtual reality (VR) films has been developed to help explore the online dangers they face.

Four new films have been created by Cornerstone VR, part of the Antser Group, to raise awareness of young people’s activity online and the impact this can have on their personal safety and mental health.

In a survey conducted at the end of last year by YoungMinds, it was reported that 34 per cent of young people wanted to leave social media weekly but felt unable to do so, while more than a fifth (22 per cent) are shown distressing content, based on their browsing history, at least once a week.

The Royal Society for Public Health found that using Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram led to increased feelings of depression, anxiety, poor body image and loneliness among 14-24-year-olds.

Serena Hadi, head of operations and practice at Cornerstone, said: “It’s no secret that social media is now an inescapable presence in the everyday lives of so many of us, especially among young people.

“It yields huge power and there are many people using their influence online to target vulnerable children and young people. When we started doing our research, we were really surprised by the methods that these individuals were using.”

Cornerstone VR’s latest films were written and scripted after several focus groups with professionals working with children in social care and the education sector, including the teams at Inspirations – providers of children’s residential care homes – and the London Borough of Redbridge, as well as conversations with young people and consultations with social media experts.

The first is an introduction to social media, showing how it fits into the day in the life of a young person, such as WhatsApp conversations with family members to receiving unsolicited messages from strangers; films two and three show how young people can be persuaded to meet someone in real life; and the fourth focuses on the decline of a young person’s mental health due to social media.

Serena said: “Our new VR content is so important right now because it highlights the impact social media can have on both the physical and mental wellbeing and safety of children and young people. It was really important to us not to retread on old ground. We wanted to make the films as realistic and informative as possible to highlight the things that we don’t always see as adults.”

Parminder Basra, director of operations at Inspirations, said: “When asked if we had young people who would like to support Cornerstone’s new videos we were keen to do so as we understand the risk online social media has on young impressionable minds. Before the internet, the risk for children from strangers was mainly outside the home but this is no longer the case. We need to do all we can to educate and raise awareness to help young minds navigate their first experience of social media and throughout their childhood to equip them with skills to manage the risks.”

As one of the UK’s leading providers of technological solutions, Cornerstone VR is already used by public and private organisations nationwide to raise awareness of early life trauma, domestic abuse, child criminal exploitation (CCE) and child sexual exploitation (CSE).

For more information about Cornerstone VR, click here.

One of the UK’s leading providers of transformational solutions in health, education and social care has partnered with Norfolk County Council to provide cutting-edge virtual reality (VR) training in order to provide stability to foster and adoption placements.

Cornerstone VR, part of the Antser Group, is being used with foster carers in Norfolk to give them a deeper understanding of the children and young people they look after by highlighting the long-term impact of adverse childhood trauma.

Every year, more than 55,000 children in England are placed into the care of a foster family, accounting for 70 per cent of children in the care system – a statistic that is not dissimilar in Norfolk.

There are currently 805 children in fostering placements in Norfolk, including agency placements, out of a total of 1,220 looked-after children in the county.

As a result, Cornerstone VR is being implemented into all foster carer and adoption journeys, in order to help reduce:

The number of adoption breakdowns

The number of foster care placement breakdowns

The duration of support the adopters and kinship carers require

By using VR, viewers are immersed into real-life scenarios, enabling them to experience abuse and neglect first-hand through the eyes of a child. The films cover a wide range of topics from child sexual exploitation (CSE) and child criminal exploitation (CCE) to domestic abuse and county lines.

Serena Hadi, Cornerstone’s head of operations and practice, said: “At Cornerstone, we are committed to supporting better and more positive outcomes for children and young people, especially our most vulnerable. We’re incredibly pleased to be partnering with Norfolk County; I hope that the success of this programme can prove as a fantastic example of just how VR can be used to improve the lives of children and young people across the country.”

The training takes place in carers’ support groups as well as individual sessions to give foster parents insight into their child(ren)’s behaviour, triggers and the way they build relationships.

Social workers across Norfolk are also using Cornerstone VR’s headsets and accompanying video training to give them a fresh perspective on the young people they support.

Penny Carpenter, cabinet member for children’s services at Norfolk County Council, said: “The virtual reality training is just one of the ways we’re helping to support relationships between carers and their children and young people.

“We know fostering is both a rewarding and challenging experience and we want to make sure we are doing everything we can to support our carers, so they can provide the best care for our children.”

VR training is a powerful tool for helping foster carers and social workers to understand the lived experiences of children and young people who have experienced trauma, abuse, and neglect. By immersing them in real-life scenarios, VR can help them develop empathy and understanding, which can lead to better outcomes for the children and young people in their care.

For more information about Cornerstone VR, click here.

In a recent episode of the ‘Dear Social Worker, Let’s Talk’ podcast, Antser’s VR Service Manager, Shalene Lemmie, was featured, shedding light on how virtual reality (VR) is transforming the field of social work.

Hosted by Le’Siran Edwards, a passionate advocate for the social work community, this episode, titled “Creating Trauma-Informed Social Workers Using Virtual Reality,” explores how Cornerstone VR, part of The Antser Group, helps to facilitate trauma-informed approaches to social care, allowing a new perspective for social workers, from those new to the profession through to those who have been in the field for years.

Le’Siran first experienced Cornerstone VR at a recent social work event. The impact she found using the VR had was so remarkable that she was keen to invite Shalene to delve deeper into this groundbreaking technology on her inspiring podcast series.

With over a decade of children’s social work experience, Le’Siran shared:

“The main reason why I’m so excited [to have you on the podcast] is because I’ve tried this, so I know exactly what the VR is about. I’ve experienced it and I still talk about it to this day. The impact was so great, so I’m really excited for social workers to hear about this.”

Listen to the podcast here:

For more information about Cornerstone VR, click here

Congratulations to Rachael Carrott, a training and development manager at Adopt South, who has been shortlisted in this year’s Social Worker of the Year awards for her work using Antser VR.

Adopt South is a regional adoption agency, combining the services of Hampshire County Council, Isle of Wight Council, Portsmouth City Council and Southampton City Council.

As a training and development manager – a new post for Adopt South – Rachael has been innovative in incorporating VR into Stage 2 training to ensure prospective adopters not only have a secure insight into the impact of early trauma throughout a child’s journey, but are also able to empathise with the birth families and their experiences.

Between 2021 and 2022, Adopt South extended its use of Antser VR into assessment work, in-person training sessions and adoption support bespoke work; using VR to enhance the parents’ understanding of their child’s behaviours, emotions and triggers and how to respond therapeutically.

Most recently, between 2022 and 2023, it has further been used to support families and schools around specific children.

Rachael, who has been shortlisted in the Digital Transformation in Social Work category, said:

“I’m personally very humbled to be shortlisted for this award. It is great for Adopt South to be recognised as a service on a national level for our use of digital technology, especially our virtual reality offer. Ultimately, we want to best prepare and then support our families and VR is an incredibly useful and valuable resource within our social worker toolkit!”

Rachael regularly shares her learning with all staff in Adopt South and trains other staff to deliver training, building their confidence and knowledge. In addition, she has been working closely with a neighbouring regional adoption agency on their training programme, sharing her understanding and experience.

Rachael has also written a training programme to take VR to schools within the four local authorities – which Adopt South delivers – so that teachers can be better informed of the trauma of adopted children and children’s outcomes can continue to be improved.

Rachel Reynolds, Head of Adopt South, said: “Rachael receives consistent, positive feedback from her role as a trainer and her passion for supporting adopters is evident from the moment you speak with her. She wants to ensure children who are adopted have the best possible experience moving forward.”

Serena Hadi, Head of Operations and Practice at Antser, said: “It’s wonderful to hear that Rachael has been shortlisted in the Social Worker of the Year awards in the Digital Transformation category and we’re delighted that Antser VR has been able to play a part in this fantastic achievement.

“Rachael is an incredible advocate for just how beneficial Antser VR can be in providing the best outcomes for children, young people and those who work with and care for them. We wish her all the very best at the awards!”

For more information on Antser VR, visit: http://18.168.228.101/antser-virtual-reality/
