Learning outcomes

  • To better understand the term “Personality Disorder” and the different types that are recognised;
  • To understand how Borderline Personality Disorder differs from other Personality Disorders and where there can be cross overs;
  • To discuss comorbidity and the controversy of Personality Disorders in relation to the classification of mental illnesses;
  • To gain an understanding of what causes a Personality Disorder and what treatment is available;
  • To consider the experience of people with a Personality Disorder/Borderline Personality Disorder – how it affects them and others around them;
  • To consider the challenges in providing support to a person with a Personality Disorder/Borderline Personality Disorder;
  • To discuss how to support people more effectively.

Description

The course will enable delegates to learn about Personality Disorders, their classifications and how they fit into the mental health spectrum. Delegates will also gain an understanding about how Personality Disorders impact on the individual and the people around them (professionals/friends/family members), learning skills that will promote best practice when working with a person with a Borderline Personality Disorder.
