This highly specialised course supports participants in developing a comprehensive overview of thresholds for completing Safeguarding enquiries.

Learning outcomes

 

  • To understand key legislation that influences safeguarding practice. i.e. Care Act, Mental Capacity Act;
  • To develop skills around making safeguarding personal and ensuring that the adult is at the centre of intervention;
  • To understand local procedures and how this applies to legal context;
  • To explore ways to engage with people who may find it difficult to accept support;
  • To discuss ethical dilemmas that may be present when completing enquiries, including unwise decision making and withheld consent;
  • To learn about to make decisions based on evidence;
  • To learn how mental capacity can impact on safeguarding enquiries

Description

This 1 day course is aimed at social workers and social care professionals who are involved in initiating safeguarding enquiries.

The course should enable delegates to understand what the thresholds are for completing enquiries.

It will also support the delegate’s confidence and understanding of what good looks like when completing enquires in order to reduce risk to potentially vulnerable adults.

This course is delivered by our expert facilitators who will bring their first hand experience and tailor the course to suit your learning needs.

Our course covers the following topics:

  • Introduce self and aims for today
  • What are section 42 enquiries and what thresholds should be considered
  • Local policies
  • Stages of enquires and six key principles
  • The Mental Capacity Act
  • Roles and responsibilities and the importance of effective communication
  • Ways to engage with those who find it difficult to accept support
  • Positive risk assessment tool and how this can be used to reduce risk
  • How to record information from enquiries in reports and how to reflect outcomes in plans
